Earlier today, Major League Wrestling announced that Mistico will go one-on-one with Averno, who will be presented by Salina de la Renta, when Mistico makes his MLW debut.
There is history between these two luchadores. When the two men were competing in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), they first faced off on February 11, 2005 and it would be Mistico who defeated Averno for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Middleweight Championship. Apparently, the fans enjoyed the match so much that they actually threw money into the ring when the contest concluded.
On April 14, 2006, Mistico teamed with Negro Casas to defeat Averno and Mephisto for the CMLL World Tag Team Championship. Almost two years later, Mistico and Hector Garza defeated Averno and Mephisto on March 10, 2008 and captured the CMLL World Tag Team Championship. The championship was declared vacant in April, but when the rematch took place, Mistico and Garza defeated Averno and Mephisto for a second time. However; Averno and Mephisto defeated Mistico and Garza for the championship in December of ’08.
The history between Mistico and Averno continued in the beginning of 2010 when the two foes teamed up and participated in the CMLL Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increibles. This was a tournament where CMLL would team a Tecnico (babyface) with a Rudo (heel). The tournament was held from 2010-2020. They wore outfits that mixed both of their styles and after showing surprising teamwork, they defeated Ephesto and Euforia in the first round and showed no friction. In the second match, Mistico’s attitude began to change when he attacked Volado Jr., a luchador that is normally a tag team partner. He showed even more rudo attributes when he began to rip Volador’s mask and after nailing an illegal low blow, he won the match for his team. He drew boos from the crowd when he claimed that “all was fair in war and defending Mexico City”, after the match concluded. The tournament ended for the duo in the semi-finals to Máscara Dorada and Atlantis but before they lost, Mistico continued to work as a heel when as he ripped the mask of Máscara.
Now the war between “The Prince of Lucha Libre” Mistico and Averno has reached the landscape of MLW.
