MATCH #1: AKIRA TOZAWA v/s ODYSSEY JONES
The first match of the January 12, 2023 edition of WWE Main Event is a singles match and is scheduled for one fall. Introducing first, making his way to the ring – AKIRA TOZAWA! At ringside, Kevin Patrick and Byron Saxton welcome us to WWE Main Event and briefly talk about the WWE Royal Rumble. Introducing Tozawa’s opponent. Making his way to the ring – ODYSSEY JONES! As he’s making his way to the ring, we hear pre-recorded comments from Jones. He says his journey back to in-ring competition after suffering an injury has been “long and difficult.” He adds that it’s moments like competing on Main Event that kept him pushing through his recovery. He closes the interview by telling Tozawa that he’s coming for him. The bell rings to officially begin this one-on-one match between Akira Tozawa against Odyssey Jones. This match ends when Jones nails Tozawa with a Spinning Boss Man Slam before obtaining the three count.
THE WINNER: ODYSSEY JONES via pinfall
A replay of the Akira Tozawa versus Odyssey Jones match airs.
After the match, Jones checked on Tozawa and extended his hand. The two superstars shook hands before hugging.

Video footage of Von Wagner arriving at the Legacy Arena airs. The reporter asks if he has any expectations for tonight but Wagner interrupts him and says he doesn’t have time for this. He tells the reporter to get the camera out of his face before he smashes it in the cameraman’s face. Then Mustafa Ali comes into the camera frame and tells Wagner to back off. He asks the reporter and cameraman if they’re okay. He asks Wagner what is wrong with him and Wagner says when you’re as big as him, you can do what you want. Ali says he’s met guys like Wagner before. He says Wagner thinks he can treat people however he wants just because he’s bigger than they are. Ali says he saw Wagner the last time he was on Main Event and he saw him choke out Cedric Alexander. Ali adds that tonight he gets revenge for Alexander and he’s going to remind Wagner of the saying, “The bigger they are…the harder they fall.” Wagner tells Ali that the saying is, “The bigger they are…the harder they hit.” The segment ends with Wagner walking away and Ali fuming.
